What is Aspect Ratio?

Understanding image proportions and cropping.

An aspect ratio describes the relationship between the width and height of an image.

It determines the final shape of your artwork.

How Aspect Ratios Work

A ratio compares width to height.

• 1:1 = Square
• 2:3 = Classic poster format
• 3:4 = Common photo format
• A-Series = International paper sizes

Different print products use different ratios.

AUTO

AUTO keeps the original proportions of the uploaded file.

No additional cropping is applied.

If you want to return to the original image shape, select AUTO.

2:3 Ratio

One of the most popular poster formats.

Common examples:

• 20 × 30 cm
• 40 × 60 cm
• 60 × 90 cm
• 24 × 36 inches

1:1 Ratio

Creates a square output.

Common uses:

• Social media artwork
• Square photo prints
• Decorative wall prints

A-Series

A-Series follows the international ISO paper standard.

• A5
• A4
• A3
• A2
• A1
• A0

This is often the preferred choice when preparing documents, posters and printed materials.

Why Cropping Happens

If the uploaded image shape does not match the selected ratio, Convert2Print must crop part of the image.

The Preview panel shows exactly what will remain in the final export.

Example

Suppose you upload a wide landscape photo.

If you choose:

• AUTO → the original image shape is preserved.
• 2:3 → parts of the sides may be removed.
• 1:1 → larger areas may be cropped to create a square.

How Convert2Print Uses Ratios

Ratios are mainly used in Illustration mode.

The selected ratio affects:

• Preview
• Cropping
• Final print size
• Generated PDFs
• Export dimensions

Recommended Workflow

• Choose AUTO if you want the original shape.
• Choose 2:3 for poster printing.
• Choose A-Series for paper-based production.
• Always check the Preview before exporting.
